Out of the ordinary

I’d like to demonstrate how I use pastel pencils to create a still life. What I love about pastel pencils is the immediacy of colour from the strong pigmentation and the fact that all you need to get going is a surface and a pencil.

Make it Happen (below) is the latest in a series I’ve been working on called ‘Little moments big memories’ featuring carefully selected items from my late mum’s wooden sewing box. I wanted to create a narrative whereby these artworks depict special moments recalled from my childhood watching my mum produce beautifully made clothes to wear from scratch and on a tight budget. These drawings have evoked a sense of real nostalgia in many of my followers and helped to reminisce on bygone days shared with loved ones who taught them to sew along with their own sewing memories.

I want my viewer to stop and take a closer look at my work whether it’s online or in a physical exhibition and to that end I work hard thinking about my intention and exactly
