INSURANCE fraud is nothing new and people have been submitting false information on claims for ages. Last year, SA life insurers uncovered 4 287 fraudulent claims totalling R787,6 million, according to the Association for Savings & Investment SA (Asisa). To be fair, people sometimes genuinely make mistakes, but fraud is mostly committed deliberately.
