Graeme Baxter might just be one of the greatest golf artists in the world. He’s almost certainly the most decorated and last year attended a Royal garden party at Buckingham Palace where he was presented with the British Empire Medal for his services to golf and tourism in Scotland.
If you are not entirely familiar with his paintings, just consider that he’s been the official artist for The Open Championship and the Ryder Cup, as well as the PGA Championship, the Solheim Cup, Presidents Cup, and the PGA and DP World Tours.
His work is so revered that it is currently on display at the Royal & Ancient Golf Club, Augusta National and Pebble Beach, among others. Even Sheikh Mohammed, the ruler of Dubai, is a known collector, though few are more prolific than Padraig Harrington. “He has five of mine,” says Baxter, “including three portraits.”
He estimates that 98 percent of his work amounts to golf course portraits and landscapes, which is why he was so shocked
