‘WHEN I FIRST SAW MY SWING ON VIDEO, I NEARLY THREW UP!’

Whoever said nice guys finish last obviously never met one Nicholas Raymond Leige Price.

One of the game’s nicest guys, the Zimbabwean won three Majors, 18 times on the PGA Tour and was the best player in the world between 1992 and ’94. “Of all the players I know, and I know a hell of a lot of them, I don’t know a nicer individual (than Nick),” gushed the great Lee Trevino.

“It’s just always been my nature to be respectful of people and of the game I play,” says Price when we mention it now. “I was brought up that way and there was never anything that would have caused me to change my personality in any way. Golf can be a maddening game, but you don’t have to be mad about it.”

Today, the modest 65-year-old can scarcely believe what he achieved. “I was pretty much a journeyman for a long time,” he smiles. “I was 35 when I won my first Major. Look at the guys who’ve won the Grand Slam … they were all in their early 20s when they won their first. But I was happy to play in as many Majors as I did, it was great fun for a youngster who didn’t know what professional golf was until I was about 16.”
