PELLS AND QUIES REEFS

The Pells lies 10 miles off Newquay and has no equal for a range of exotic species that have wandered to Cornish waters from the Mediterranean, the Bay of Biscay and the Azores. Most are taken from charter boats due to swiftly changing weather in the open Atlantic which keeps smaller and privately owned craft at a disadvantage. Unlike the reefs on the Channel side of the Cornish peninsula, the seabed configuration is mainly rock ridges, rarely more than 20ft in height. This is in direct contrast to the towering pinnacles, such a feature of southern Cornish waters.
