Pioneer of La Nouvelle Vague (1930-2022)

RGUABLY the most influential French filmmaker of his generation, Jean-Luc Godard came to the fore with 1960’s , upending the tenets of traditional cinema by making (1961), followed by the episodic (1962) and 1964’s , which included a memorable dance routine later used as a template for Uma Thurman and John Travolta in . Other key films included the Brigitte Bardot-led (a particular favourite of Martin Scorsese) and 1965’s , a sci-fi noir filmed entirely around Paris at night.
