INSPIRATION OF THE YEAR — DAVINA McCALL

As one of our best-loved television presenters, Davina McCall’s name is synonymous with some of our most iconic shows. After making her mark as a bubbly, charismatic presenter on MTV, she became ubiquitous on our screens in the 2000s and remains just as popular today.

These days, however, she’s loved not just for her presenting skills but for giving a voice to a subject few have dared tackle in such a public way: the menopause. With two powerful documentaries – Sex, Myths and the Menopause in 2021 and this year’s follow-up, Sex, Mind and the Menopause – plus numerous interviews and a best-selling book on the subject, the 54-year-old is breaking taboos all over the place about menopause myths and misconceptions.

Davina’s mission is simple: to provide clear, relevant information and guidance about how best to navigate what can be a very confusing and draining life chapter.

She has taken her mission to Parliament, joining women outside Westminster last year to celebrate the creation of a dedicated menopause task force. And in April, she joined the Menopause Mandate group presenting its campaign for better advice and support to press and MPs.

Her award was presented by Dame Lesley Regan, the Government’s first ever women’s health ambassador. Explaining why she is so passionate about this cause, Davina explains: “Menopausal women, we’ve done our jobs for 30 years, we really
