I haven’t had many days out decoying this year. Partly because of work but also due to a lack of wood pigeons.
It has clearly been an exceptional year with regards to the weather. The heat and subsequent drought have had quite an effect on hedgerow wildlife. I was sitting in a hide recently for a short decoying session and the lack of small birds was very noticeable. Usually the hedgerows are a hive of activity at this time of year but there was hardly a small bird or songbird in sight.
