ON THE SCULPTURE TRAIL

If there’s one thing Aussies are good at, it’s giving their fellow Aussies nicknames. One of the best we’ve heard of lately is the ‘Scrap Metal Sheila’, a name card that Milynda Rogers wears with pride.

Now, the locals out around Barcaldine in central Queensland might have thought Milynda was a sheila with a few roos loose in the top paddock, but she’s since proven to be one hell of a metal sculptor. She lived on a grazing property way out there in the middle of nowhere and decided she needed a platform to display her ‘artworks’. What started out as simply a few metal figures plonked beside lonely outback Queensland roads has now resulted in one of the biggest permanent outdoor sculpture exhibits in the world. It’s called the Lake Dunn Sculpture Trail and our T7-mounted tour guide Henry Willersdorf explained it features no less than 40 sculptures
