If there’s one thing Aussies are good at, it’s giving their fellow Aussies nicknames. One of the best we’ve heard of lately is the ‘Scrap Metal Sheila’, a name card that Milynda Rogers wears with pride.
Now, the locals out around Barcaldine in central Queensland might have thought Milynda was a sheila with a few roos loose in the top paddock, but she’s since proven to be one hell of a metal sculptor. She lived on a grazing property way out there in the middle of nowhere and decided she needed a platform to display her ‘artworks’. What started out as simply a few metal figures plonked beside lonely outback Queensland roads has now resulted in one of the biggest permanent outdoor sculpture exhibits in the world.
