Tender facelift costings
I was particularly interested in the ‘Tender facelift’ article by Richard Barnard (PBO, September 2022) but it would have been of great interest to know the costings. That would enable me to determine if it is cost-effective for me to follow a similar course of action.

I paid £200 for the dinghy, which I felt was a little over the odds, given the work required, but the hull was sound and secondhand tenders do seem to be pricey at the moment. The most expensive part of the refit was ordering the machined timbers for the gunwales, which was £80. The carpenter also supplied me with the machined pine boards for the sole, which cost another £50. I used odd offcuts of mahogany for the knees and floors that were in my workshop. The brass keel bands, drain plug and oar clamp cost around £100. Remaining costs were for the epoxy glue, screws and paints, totalling £70. With extras, the total dinghy cost was
