Happy days! The 250 Matchless is a runner – just in case you’ve forgotten last month’s moment of triumph. Not a moment of Triumph, that’s different. Discontented with simply starting the engine once to see that everything works, of course I had to start it several times, to see that everything still works. Which it did -uptoapoint. Although I was sore tempted to take to the local lanes using the portable fuel tank to supply the fuel, somehow I managed to resist the temptation. Even though it was very hot and indeed sunny – ideal pushing conditions.

There is a minor fuel tank dilemma here. I enjoy dilemmas; any opportunity to sit on my Shed stool and contemplate nothing at all important is welcome. In this case, neither of the two tanks I have for the G2 CSR is ideal. The one which came with it is sound and would certainly refinish reasonably affordably, but it has stripped mounting threads at the front. Fixing those would probably destroy the remaining chrome and make the cost too high. The spare tank (thanks, Bill) has reclaimable threads, but also has a great big dent and the chrome is basically shot. So both tanks need attention.

But not now. Not yet.

The other minor dilemma was The Great Fitting Mystery. Never before have I seen a device like the rear tank mount. Basically, instead of an ’ole to take a bolt, there’s a slot. This is for a T-headed bolt, which in my case I did not have, and neither did my usual happy
