UNDERCARD

EKOW ESSUMAN retained his British and Commonwealth welterweight titles for a third time, winning the Lonsdale Belt outright in the process, when he outpointed Samuel Antwi over 12 rounds.

Nottingham’s Essuman was classy for long periods of the contest and, at 33, looks to be at his peak. Antwi was a capable challenger but too often struggled to keep up when Essuman increased the pace.

The pre-fight favourite started brightly, boxing behind his jab but Stockwell’s Antwi, 30, showed ambition when he let fly as the first round came to a close. Essuman was the busier and seemed to stun Antwi in the third with a late flurry. But the challenger was having his moments in the first half, and spiteful right
