This member of the legume family is an instant head-turner, with fascinating flowers that give it the common name of snail vine.
Previously part of genus, is a vine native to Central and South America. The specific epithet ‘’ is believed to come from the Portuguese word‘caracol’, meaning snail, and when you take a look at the flowers it’s not hard to see why. As buds emerge, they appear twisted around like snail shells, slowly opening to reveal petals in white and lavender, with some sporting a touch of pink. These flowers also carry a strong floral scent that is similar to wisteria or magnolia.
