When Milly Alcock sent off her audition tapes, she was unaware she was vying for a role in the Game of Thrones prequel series, House of the Dragon. “We had no idea,” the 22-year-old tells WHO. Being cast as Princess Rhaenyra is shaping up to be the role of a lifetime, with millions around the world tuning into the epic series. Here, she talks about her dragon co-stars and how she’s coping with her new-found fame.
What did you do when you found out that you were going to be part of House of the Dragon?
We just drank, and called our mothers!
What was it like to finally walk on set and realise the world you are about to be a part of?
Terrifying! I think it’s worse now because everyone keeps reminding us how big of a deal it is. Going into it, we were kind of given this grace period of completely indulging, rehearsing and just getting to work together as actors within the scene. Now it’s here and it’s completely overwhelming.
Did you seek out Emilia Clarke for advice on playing a Targaryen and coping with dragons?
No. I was never just going to slide into Emilia Clarke’s DMs (laughs). You can’t. Rhaenyra is very different to Daenerys, anyway. She is met with very similar challenges that Daenerys faced in that people are constantly claiming she is not liable in her claim to
