Northumbrian Notes

I DON’T think there can be any worse months in the average birdroom than August and September, with feathers everywhere from the moult. Some early starters may be further through, but I think these two months will be the worst for most. My August was made even worse with an outbreak of mite after the hot spell, which we aren’t used to up here. I haven’t been bothered by mite too often over the years, but have always treated the birds before pairing up. The hot weather contributed to one of the worst outbreaks in recent times.
