Aroha Awarau (Ngāti Maru/Ngāti Porou/Niue/Samoa)

roha has been a passionate magazine journalist for more than 15 years and has won awards for his work in the industry. After graduating with a degree in film studies from Waikato University, he worked in the film and TV industry before returning to study journalism. He sunk his teeth into community newspapers before nabbing, and then as news editor at . He then went on to produce the current affairs show at Whaakata Māori and secured an interview with Oprah Winfrey while she was in New Zealand filming . Aroha is also an award-winning filmmaker and playwright. His plays and films have travelled the world. He has a close creative relationship with Jennifer Ward-Lealand, and their film , which tackles Aotearoa’s P problem, is currently travelling the world.
