Sylvester Stallone fails to director Julius Avery’s dour superhero variation. Sly brings a familiar world-weary pathos to retired former hero the Samaritan, thought to have perished, who emerges from hiding when his tearaway young neighbour (Javon Walton) falls in with Pilou Asbæk’s gang leader. Asbæk’s assemblage of a small army with one rabblerousing speech typifies the sloppy plotting here, and with the action and pacing similarly undercooked, ’s waste of talent won’t give Marvel or DC sleepless nights.
