Plants to feed THE SOIL

A vegetable garden is hungry. In order to churn out crop after crop we need to keep it fed with compost or fertiliser or we can tap into a bit of plant magic and recharge our hard-working soils with a greencrop. A bag of seed plus 10 minutes’ effort and fertility is secured – my kind of gardening!

The rhythm of a greencrop is simple: sow the seed, let it grow, then, just as it is about to flower, chop it down and lay it back on the bed to mulch the following crop. There’s a greencrop to meet every need – to open heavy clay, build up sand and clean up after soil disease. Mix and match to suit
