Erik, my partner and I planned for the buffalo and lion in South Africa, then elephant, hippo and croc in the Caprivi, and the leopard and rhino on our concession near Gobabis.
In January we met with George in the States for the second time. He was a tough (for his age) gentleman, but we had no idea of how tough he was. He walked every step with us and never let us carry his gun, never complained about the distance, the heat or anything. Years spent in the military became evident. Everything he did was precise: Ten minutes early, ready to go, every, single morning!
And boy, could he shoot. Before our first days hunt we took him to the shooting range and after the first shot, we couldn't see the hole in the target through the binoculars. Erik and I looked at each other, and I remember thinking, this is going to be a long trip if he missed the target completely at 100 yards. When we walked up to the target, his .416 Rigby had pierced it absolutely dead center.
George went on to drop five of the 7 Dangerous Game right in their tracks. In fact, he shot 23 animals in total during his trip, and every single shot he made was pin-point! This made our job way easier.
