VELODYNE IMPACT X SUBWOOFERS

Velodyne has announced what it says is an “all-new Impact X subwoofer series developed by an international team of experts in the U.S. and Germany”. There are two subwoofers in the range: the Impact X 10, which has a 254mm (10-inch) driver with a four-layer 51mm voice coil, and the Impact X 12, which has a 305mm (12-inch) driver, also with a four-layer 51mm voice coil. Both subwoofers are bass-refl ex cabinet designs with the port exiting underneath the cabinet, and both use Class-D amplifiers – the amp driving the X 10 has a rated output of 250 watts, while the output of the more powerful X 12 is 300 watts.

Both new subwoofers include DSP circuitry that offers four different signal processing presets for different applications, adjustable via a remote control. Velodyne has also utilised anti-clipping circuitry to prevent distortion via this mechanism. “These new subwoofers feature Velodyne Acoustics’ newly developed electronics, drivers and cabinet design, ” said James Hicks of Oceanic Distribution, which distributes Velodyne in Australia. “Impact X has features not seen on any Velodyne sub at these price points before, including a front display screen with adjustable brightness level, full-function remote control and inbuilt DSP listening modes.”

The two new Impact X models have loop-through circuits for those who wish to use multiple subwoofers in their rooms to counteract the effects of room modes, too. Available now in a choice of black or white finishes, the Velodyne Impact X 12 sells for $1,199 (RRP) and the Impact X 10 for $999 (RRP).
