Under the Hood APPLETREE SURFBOARDS

HEY TEAM. SO LET’S TAKE IT RIGHT BACK TO THE VERY BEGINNINGS… WHAT FIRST GAVE YOU THE IMPETUS TO BEGIN APPLETREE, AND WHAT EXPERIENCE WAS BROUGHT TO THE COMPANY FROM THE START?

Thanks! Happy to talk with you guys. Appletree was started in Holland by Wieger and Jorrit Buurma. We were initially just casually making normal surfboards as a hobby for ourselves and some friends. With our background in engineering and a passion for design we quickly started looking into new materials to make boards perform better and, most importantly, last longer. Jorrit was working at Mystic at that time as a technical designer, and he started kitesurfing. We realized that in kiting, the need for strong boards was far greater than in normal surfing, so we decided to focus more on kiteboards. The kiteboards quickly gained traction and this was the moment for us to quit our day jobs and start building boards professionally.

WE MUST SAY WE REALLY LIKE THE BRAND NAME. WHERE DID IT COME FROM?

From the Apple orchard where the brand started! Through our first years we worked from a shed on the farm. The name was chosen without thinking too much
