People buy houses for many reasons: shelter, sanctuary, an investment… But how many can say they bought their house for a dog?

Kirsten Matthew can. The Aucklander bought her Red Beach home in 2019 because she needed somewhere for her dog, Mabel.

“I’d owned an apartment in Ponsonby for eight years that wasn’t dog-friendly,” says Kirsten. “But I was desperate to have a dog, so when friends told me they had to rehome their two-year-old Labrador because they didn't have time for her, I told them to give me six months, and started looking for a house.”
