By any reckoning, 35 years is a hell of a long stint at the crease for a motorcycle, which in this case stepped up to the wicket back in 1987. Save for a brief hiatus in 2019 when it looked like the bails might have tumbled as ever-tightening emissions legislation threatened the KLR’s run haul, the evergreen adventurer has kept batting on.
In all that time, the KLR has only undergone one major model overhaul — way back in 2007 — until now.
For 2022 there are two KLR models: a khakicoloured ‘standard’ model that’s priced at $10,294 ride-away, alongside an all-singing, all-dancing new Adventure model that is the feature of this review. The Adventure is decked out in a snappy camo-grey colour scheme and is priced at $11,324 ride-away. For the extra grand or so the Adventure comes complete with lockable hard plastic pannier cases and mounting frames, fog lamps, lower engine crash bars and 12V and USB power sockets.
