In the midst of lockdown, John Yazbek found himself without wheels for the first time in his adult life. “Well, technically I had a vehicle – but it was in the workshop for some much-needed repairs and my mom had written off our other car, which meant we were slightly stranded,” he says.
“So, one day, I happened to be walking to the little supply shop in the tiny rural village of Bathurst. I remember the day well: it was a beautiful clear winter’s morning, with none of the dreaded Eastern Cape coastal winds, and with puffy white clouds contrasting a deep blue sky.
