PIGGY MARCH’S voice shook as she acknowledged the fact that her name, alongside that of the horse she credits for some of the best days of her life, Vanir Kamira, will live on in history in the form of a coveted plaque on Burghley’s Winners’ Avenue.
Piggy had previously attempted to secure that plaque 17 times, but she had to wait 20 years from her Burghley debut in 2002 aboard the wonderful Flintlock until her childhood dream became a reality.
But this victory is so much more than just a plaque. Piggy has endured a tumultuous year, both personally and professionally – her sister-in-law Caroline March was seriously hurt in an eventing fall in April and an injury to Brookfield Inocent ruled out her World Championship chances.
