DRIVER Power is the UK’s most in-depth car ownership survey. So far this year, we’ve polled drivers for their experiences with new cars, brands and dealerships.
Now, in an all-new survey, we’ve asked for feedback from electric and hybrid-car owners. Over the following pages, you’ll find a rundown of the top 27 new EVs and hybrids to own, as judged by owners.
As with our Driver Power new car survey from earlier this year (Issue 1,733), we’ve scored these cars across 10 categories: engine and gearbox, exterior, interior, practicality and boot space, ride and handling, safety features, efficiency and running costs, reliability, infotainment and value. Each of these is made up of several sub-categories, which means we can tell you what owners think in precise detail.
Read on to find out how these EVs and hybrids are ranked, starting from the bottom of the league.
HOW THE RATINGS WORK
After analysing the data, we put it into an easy format for each car in our top 27
A. This number tells you where the car sits in our top-27 EVs and hybrids. If your model isn’t listed, look out for our used-car results in September.
B. Here we tell you how long each car has been in production, as well as the main things owners commented on when responding to the survey.
C. We have 10 judging categories, and the percentage is the average of a car’s scores. This is its rating and defines its overall chart position.
D. These bars represent where each model finished in each of our 10 judging categories. The longer the bar, the higher the car’s ranking.
E. We’ve picked out some interesting comments – some favourable, some less so – from owners of each model.
F. We’ve expanded our judging categories to include value. A high score shows that a car offers a lot for what you pay for it.

KEY POINTS Lexus’s legendary reliability can’t outweigh a string of disappointments
IT’S a real shock to see a Lexus languishing at the bottom of a Driver Power chart, because the brand is usually a front runner. Indeed, the CT topped the ranking in the premium compact family car segment as recently as 2020.
CT owners in this year’s survey say they still love their cars’ reliability, with a score which places it as the overall number one in this category. They also appreciated the smoothness of the brakes and gearbox.
But it was rated the lowest in the entire survey in a string of categories, including practicality, ride and handling, running costs, infotainment and value.
