UPDATED TALENT RANKINGS

The Padres made waves at the trade deadline by adding Juan Soto and Josh Bell from the Nationals, Josh Hader from the Brewers and Brandon Drury from the Reds.

The prospect capital required to make those acquisitions was substantial.

San Diego dealt shortstop CJ Abrams and outfielders Robert Hassell III and James Wood—three of the system’s top four prospects—plus 23-year-old rookie lefthander MacKenzie Gore and Arizona Complex League breakout righthander Jarlin Susana to Washington to land Soto and Bell.

The Hader deal cost the Padres outfielder Esteury Ruiz and lefthander Robert Gasser, two of the system’s top 10 prospects. Then San Diego dealt 18-year-old Rookie-ball shortstop Victor Acosta to the Reds to import Drury.
