The gift that keeps on giving. Rolling Stones collectors might bemoan the refusal, thus far, of the live archive series to delve deep into the ’60s and ’70s, but as long as it keeps turning out great sounding albums, does that really matter?
Licked Live in NYC (Rolling Stones Records) was recorded in New York in January 2003, during the band’s 40th anniversary tour, and captures a truly representative set.
The Inevitable Big Ones are all present, of course, and it’s astonishing how “Brown Sugar,” “Jumpin’ Jack Flash” and “Street Fighting Man” can still sound exciting after so many performances. Even “Start Me Up” has its good points on a night like this.
