PAPERBARK THORN

Background and general description

The paperbark thorn, Vachellia (previously Acacia) sieberiana var. woodii, is a medium to large (18m) deciduous tree, usually with a magnificent, flat-topped, spreading crown, which sometimes can be round - a ‘characteristic’ tree of Africa. It is fastgrowing and fairly cold resistant.

In siSwati it is known as in Xitsonga, and in Tshivenda and in Afrikaans.
