THE OLD adage “an apple a day keeps the doctor away” is as relevant now as it has ever been. With virtually everything that we eat these days having to pass the scrutiny of the ‘health police’, it’s heart-warming to be able to extol the virtues of such a simple fruit.
At the time of writing the few varieties of British apples that remain on the supermarket shelves are beginning to taste a little lacklustre, having been stored for several months. So our thoughts turn to anew crop which by the time Choice readers see this should be hitting the shelves.
