Out of the blue
ine artist Colleen Sylvia Gericke’s intricate botanical illustrations caught my eye several years ago. Recently, I was drawn to gift cards on display with blue-and-white illustrations in pen and watercolour, and discovered that they featured illustrations from her latest collection, called Blougrond. They’re so beautiful I don’t think I’ll ever write in them – I plan to buy extra sets to give away. Colleen, who lives in Southdowns, Centurion, says the inspiration for this collection came from pottery shards found in the garden of her childhood home in Paarl. The fragments of blue-and-white motifs and Victorian figures captured her imagination, and became the starting point for these exquisite illustrations; @disncolleentjie –
