ATLANTIC CITY — Feeling the buzz of the crowd while walking up to the Atlantic City Convention Center, it seemed the annual National Sports Collectors Convention held great promise in many ways.

Over my two-day adventure, I looked to highlight some rare and unusual vintage items to share with Sports Collectors Digest readers, and maybe find a few things for my collection as well.

On the massive show floor, with thousands of people, it felt like being inside a beehive — with an ample inventory of honey.

Shortly after strolling into the event on the first full day, I noticed a colorful vintage hockey piece at the Top Notch Collectibles table. Dan Kubin worked the booth of the Canadian-based company and shared the basics on the $2,500 item.
