Atlantic City Showdown

ATLANTIC CITY – Mike Steffey was on a mission on the final day of the 42nd annual National Sports Collectors Convention.

Strolling around the show floor at the Atlantic City Convention Center with his dad, Jay, 12-year-old Mike was looking for autographed rookie cards of some of the top NFL quarterbacks.

Steffey picked up Josh Allen and Kyler Murray cards, but his big find was a Patrick Mahomes 2017 Elite autograph /49. Valued at around $2,800, the young Steffey was able to acquire the big purchase through part cash and part trade.

Steffey had cash at his disposal on Sunday after selling around $7,000 worth of cards at the first official Trade Night three days earlier at The National.

“I like the trade nights a lot more than [shows], because everyone’s overpriced with cards at the shows,” Mike Steffey said. “But you could find some steals like I had today. Mostly the last day is when you can find some good stuff.”

Not even a teenager yet, Steffey is quite talented wheeling and dealing with collectors of all ages, as well as with dealers. Dad was impressed with his son’s bargaining skills.
