Some of you older, rather I should say “more experienced”, hunters remember the 1960’s and earlier before portable treestands were invented. Deer hunters recognized that if they got even a few feet up in a tree they could lessen the chances of being detected by the always overly cautious whitetail. So we built sometimes, elaborate death-traps. These old stands started out strong enough, but trees increase their diameter every year and before long the tree growth pushed the boards off the screws or nails. These stands, and the boards nailed to the tree as a ladder, are very dangerous so please don’t use them, no matter how many deer you have killed from them.
The modern portable stands and ladder stands have evolved with better designs and lighter materials. But regardless of these changes, gravity has remained the same. What goes up will come down.
