TALI CLARKE WAS hacking along a local country lane in the West Country when a farmer appeared walking towards her, leading a calf.
“When the calf saw us, it made a strange, high-pitched ‘moo’ and leapt into the air. Both ponies — I was riding with my sister — stopped dead in their tracks,” recalls Tali. “My sister couldn’t see over the top of her pony’s head because it was up so high, while my pony did the opposite — he yanked his head towards the ground and charged off into a hedge.
