In first place

In Paris, two major openings are causing quite the splash: Samaritaine, a department store 16 years in the making, and Bourse de Commerce, the former stock exchange and now exhibition site of the Pinault Collection of art. Their arrival heralds a new, cooler era for the city’s somewhat staid and overly touristy 1st and 2nd arrondissements. Other recent arrivals include the Sainte Anne Gallery, a gallery space for established and rising artists (and a number of potted plants) and Hotel Madame Rêve, in what was once the French capital’s only 24-hour post office.
