ALL living things are classified according to their relationship with one another. It was the philosopher Aristotle (384-322 BC) who was instrumental in creating the beginnings of the classification system. He proposed that all living things should be put into groups according to their similarities.
Many centuries elapsed and then Aristotle’s system was worked on by the “Father of Taxonomy”, the Swedish naturalist Carolus Linnaeus (1707-78). Linnaeus created a system whereby all things should be classified as animal, vegetable or mineral. He then further suggested there should be subdivisions, which he called Class, Order, Genus, Species and Variety. Over the years, additional subdivisions
