Follow the line

IN writing this column, I often try to weave a theme between seemingly different items; this week’s offering consists of themes that group the objects into five pairs.

Fishing provides the link for a sporting trophy sold by Lawrences of Crewkerne in May and a print at Sotheby’s in July. The first was a wooden half-block carving of a salmon mounted on a plaque with the relevant fly and retailed by Forrest & Sons of Kelso (Fig 1).
