Don’t forget the deer, Defra

LAST year Defra unveiled its England Trees Action Plan, reflecting the Government’s intention to develop the country’s woodland as part of its greener aspirations. We all know the profound effect that unmanaged deer can have on newly established forestry, yet you would be hard pressed to find much mention of them beyond a few lines tucked away in the 38-page document. Although a national deer management strategy is hinted at, clarification is still awaited at the time of writing.
