During the Second World War, the German manufacturing company of Markes & Co., located in the town of Ludenscheid, was busy manufacturing ballbearings and other metal parts for the war effort. In the immediate postwar years, the company continued producing metal components, but also tooled up to launched a ‘series of modern Auto-DUX model cars’, with a stylised swallow insignia.

The concept of the Auto-DUX metal toy cars was a kit comprising several parts that could be put together and taken apart again.
