IT had been nearly a quarter of a century since Britain won a medal at a World Championships – the last coming in 1998 in Rome – or Olympic qualification at the first attempt, always the major goal. But this time was different to the past five championships, over the past 24 years.

This was a British team that had the horsepower and the rider talent to make amazing things happen on the world stage, and they did, taking team bronze less than a pole behind silver medallists the Netherlands, qualifying for the Paris Games, and also coming within a whisker of individual bronze.
