The internet loves the story of these young men who rescued people from a burning building
In times like these, people are desperate to read something that gives them hope. Thankfully, The Big Issue is around to provide just that. Our scoop on a group of young men who ran into a burning building to rescue people has taken the internet by storm, with thousands of people reading the story and sharing it on social media.
The teenagers were on their way to their community hub in East London, where they attend the Young Black Men project, when they heard a loud bang and saw smoke billowing out of a tower block across the road. They immediately sprang into action, helping people out of the building before firefighters arrived. Thankfully, no one was seriously injured in the fire, which was tackled by 100 firefighters.
Sakariye (Zack) Digaale told The Big Issue: “There were five of us, we all had different roles. I said I’d find disabled people and another friend was pointing people to the exits. We went up the floors knocking on the doors telling people to leave the building. People were shocked, they thought we were trolling them, so it was a struggle to explain to them we weren’t joking.
“There was a guy on the fourth floor who I had heard was deaf and blind, so I was trying to go to him to rescue him out of the building. So I put him on my back and took him down
