Thailand became the first country in Asia to decriminalize cannabis, launching the first day of legal sales on Thursday, June 9. The Thai Food and Drug Administration officially removed marijuana and hemp from the Category 5 narcotics list, allowing cultivation and possession at home.
The new attitude is lightyears away from the Kingdom of Thailand’s older stringent drug laws, which were once among the strictest in the world until prison overpopulation became a problem and amendments were made.
