1,900 years later

This year Hadrian’s Wall, Britain’s ancient Roman frontier in the north, celebrates its 1,900th birthday. Built at the request of Emperor Hadrian in 122 AD, it marked the border between Britain and unconquered Caledonia in the north and is the largest Roman archaeological feature in Britain, running a total of 73 miles from Wallsend in the east to Bowness-on-Solway in the west.
