BLAKEY RIGG

Like most railway modellers, I love seeing big express trains in real life and at exhibitions. The thrill of an A4, ‘Deltic’ or ‘Azuma’ being particularly hard to beat. But, for a long time now, my own modelling has tended towards industrial railways and the Irish broad gauge. Mixed with an interest in social history and industrial archaeology, I have long preferred the railway modelling road less travelled.

Years ago, I was walking with friends high up on the North Yorkshire Moors in Rosedale and happened across some old kilns, sentinel in the landscape and realised we were strolling along an old railway line.
