As the “Further Reading” section at the back of this book shows, there are more than a dozen good books on traditional Māori greenstone carving and other decorative arts, some dating back more than 100 years. That is useful information, as it is quite likely that anyone who finds themselves immersed in this book will seek to broaden their knowledge. The goal of this particular book, however, is to show anyone with an inclination to give greenstone carving a go exactly how to get started and get proficient.
