Mecum Auctions, Glendale
The trajectory of Mecum’s event in Glendale, Arizona, is apparently only ever-skyward. Total sales for the fourth annual event there, March 11-14, hit $66.3 million across four days — one more sales day than in ’21. That’s a 53 percent increase in total dollars over 2021. (Recall that even with COVID-induced caution last year, ’21 also set record sales for Mecum in Arizona.). This year’s sell-through was at 78 percent, down from 2021’s 86 percent, and the average per-car sale also dropped around $8,000, down to the mid $51,000 range. This was despite 37 percent more people through the gate. Surely a strong online bidder contingency, with some help from TV coverage on Discovery-owned cable channels, helped those best-ever sales numbers.
