I have a love–hate relationship with the online world. The hate side is fairly predictable: unrealistic beauty and lifestyle standards, relentless advertising, bad news, terrible opinions, the never-ending stream of information. The love side comes from the fascination I’ve always had with observing the lives of regular Joes – kind of like long-distance people-watching.

YouTube was the realm of lifestyle and beauty vloggers and Instagram quickly became the preferred digital space for fashionable young’uns and arty folks. For a few good years, learning about people, their ideas and what I did and didn’t like was easy. I was informed, inspired, thriving.
