How are you finding your new role at Classic FM after 25 years at the BBC?

It was a real wrench to leave the BBC. I will love it and defend it until my last breath, but after being there for a quarter of its 100 years, I felt it was the right time for a new chapter. Taking over from John Suchet at Classic FM [Mr Soanes presents at 7pm every weekday] was a great, if daunting honour. I had my leaving drinks in the pub in which I was offered my job at Radio 4—after a formal interview, I should add! (The Yorkshire Grey, 46, Langham Street, W1.) It was a good old-fashioned BBC farewell, with friends and colleagues from throughout my career, and may have set a new record, lasting from noon until midnight.
