HITTING THE BIKE TRAILS

ne of the best ways to explore and escape while traveling the country is on a mountain bike. The terrain varies endlessly—from smooth singletrack through pine forests, to technical rock gardens with epic views, and bumpy jeep roads to ghost towns and mining remains. I love mountain biking because it forces me to concentrate only on what’s in front of me: creek crossings, skinny bridges, epic drops. Whether you’re up with the sun or you ride as a way to unwind after a day on the road, bringing a mountain bike along is always a good choice—and it’s much easier to take a bike in a van or RV than to lug it around on airplanes.
